This course is a precursor for Law 366 (a.k.a. IPS 205B, Public Policy 303B). It provides key statistical background and an introduction to regression for law, international policy studies, and public policy students interested in developing empirical analysis skills. Topics include hypothesis testing, linear regression, nearest neighbors regression and a variety of statistical concepts. The course also introduces students to hands-on empirical analysis via computer exercises using popular statistical packages. Law 362 and Law 366 involve a substantial introduction to statistical tools, with the aim of developing some depth in the ability to analyze empirical studies, to conduct empirical research, and to cross examine or work with statistical experts. Law students interested in taking a single introductory course with less emphasis on tools should consider Law 468 (Statistical Inference in Law) instead of Law 362 and Law 366.
