All Spring 2010 Courses - Details

Externship, Civil
Course Number: 474-0-01 5-12 Units
The Civil Standard Externship Program (SEP) allows second and third year students to work for credit in select non-profit public interest, public policy, and government agencies in the Bay Area for one quarter. The Civil SEP allows students to (a) gain experience in a field where a clinical course is not offered, or (b) pursue advanced work in an area of prior clinical practice. Placements can be either full time (40 hours per week) or part time, but no fewer than 16 hours per week. Because of other Law School requirements, students in their final quarter are limited to part-time externships of no more than 16 hours per week.
Students participating in the Civil SEP must enroll in a designated companion course (still to be determined) during the 2010 spring term. In some cases where other seminars would be more appropriate companion courses for a student's placement, the student can request to substitute the seminar for the standard course. For a complete description of the Civil SEP, students should read the Externship Handbook, which is available from the Levin Center for Public Service and Public Interest Law or online at: http://www.law.stanford.edu/program/centers/pip/externship/. Students wishing to enroll in an externship must meet various requirements that are set out in the Handbook.
Interested students should speak to Danielle Cover, Pro Bono Coordinator.
