| Environment and Energy Workshop |
| Course Number: 432-0-01 |
Caldwell / Sivas / Thompson / Wara | 3 Units |
This workshop seminar will provide students with the opportunity to examine and critique cutting-edge research and work in the field of environment, energy, and natural resources. Although it is open to all students, the seminar is designed especially for those with an interest in the field who wish to stay abreast of current issues, work, and ideas. In each class, an academic expert, policy maker, or practitioner will present their current research or work and engage in a robust discussion.
Students may enroll in the seminar in one of two ways. (1) Most students will be responsible for collaborating with other students to prepare for and lead three in-class discussions. This discussion leadership preparation will entail extra background research and reading and discussion question preparation. Each discussion leadership team will work with one of the instructors to produce a rich array of questions and information to enhance the in-class discussion. Short reflection/discussion papers (2-3 pages each) will be required of each student related to the presentations and working papers for which they have been assigned as discussion leaders. This will satisfy the Law School's Writing requirement. (2) With the consent of the instructors, a limited number of students may elect to write on an environmental or natural resource law or policy topic of their choice. This will satisfy the Law School's Research requirement. IPER joint-degree students who have not yet taken the course for Research credit must do so in order to satisfy the joint-degree requirements. Students who enrolled in the Workshop in winter 2008 or 2009 are free to enroll in the workshop again for credit in spring 2010.
This course is open to first-year Law School students. |
